Seven days later and we are still drooling over our lunch at Débutant. I am just going to say it, I think this is one of the best dining experiences we have ever had and what makes that statement even sweeter is that Débutant is located in Wollongong, our hometown!
Opened by Daniel Sherley in August 2019 Débutant can only be described as a genius combination of sophisticated French bistro cuisine with perfectly cooked prime-cut beef from a high-end steak house. Although this may seem an odd match on the surface together they create delicious flavours that will have you booking your next visit before you have even finished your entrée.
With so many good reviews we couldn’t order one meal each so we ordered a combination of entrees, mains & desserts to share. Although every dish was exceptional we just couldn’t go past the flavours of the Steak Frites with Cognac Cream Sauce, Twice cooked Gruyere Cheese Soufflé, the Charcoal Roasted Prawns with Herb Butter & Watercress and the Vanilla Crème Caramel.
How fitting, we ordered a glass or two, actually, maybe three of the French Rosé Domaine De Chatillon (Savoie, FR) 2017 which complimented our meal just nicely, and with French music playing softly in the background Débutant’s brilliant staff looked after our every need.
Débutant is an absolute must for any food lover, all we can say is merci beaucoup Débutant, nous serons de retour, yes, we will be back!
