Copenhagen is an amazing city and there are so many good looking people here but most impressively it’s the home to Princess Mary – who can I brag to say is Australian.
Commuters are riding bikes in trendy clothing around a city that feels happy and cheerful. We visited Copenhagen for one day while onboard the Celebrity Silhouette and loved every minute of it.
Nyhavn

We started our one day in Copenhagen at Nyhavn to see the coloured shops and restaurants that line the canals.
This part of town is a 17th-century port that use to be graced with sleazy bars and interesting characters. You can be rest assured that this is now a trendy part of town where people go to sit back and relax and enjoy the cafes and restaurants.
Be sure to sit down, take your time to people watch and soak up the atmosphere, it’s beautiful. Nyhavn becomes a very popular spot at lunchtime so if you would prefer to enjoy it all by yourself, make sure to visit early in the morning.

Christiansborg Palace

Walking around Christiansborg Palace you will appreciate the beauty of the old buildings that have shaped Copenhagen.
The Palace is now the office of the prime minister, supreme court and parliament. The Royals still use this palace for special events and it is home to the Royal Stables. You can look inside on your own or as part of a tour if this is your cup of tea. We decided to look at the amazing statues and architecture from the outside with a sneak peek inside to ensure we had time to see everything we wanted to see. We then made our way to Strøget!

Strøget

Strøget is a car-free shopping strip in Copenhagen which has every kind of shop available.
You can shop for well-known high-end brands or do what I love to do, browse the local brand name stores that I’ve never seen back home.
We stumbled across Lagkagehuset where you get ridiculously delicious cakes, drinks and food for any occasion. I couldn’t pronounce the names of the cakes in the window so I simply smiled and pointed to the strawberry slice and cake with cream in the middle and fresh strawberries on the top.
This is a must, do not leave without trying these cakes and while you’re there have the organic lemonade with fresh mint- delicious!
After doing all of this we headed towards Tivoli Gardens as they were just opening!

Tivoli Gardens

Tivoli Gardens is an amusement park in Copenhagen. It is the second oldest operating park in the world and first made its debut back in 1843 – pretty impressive right!
Walking through the mains gates the park really takes you back in time. No death-defying Six Flags rollercoasters here, more classic old school style with charm and I just loved it!
The park is beautifully maintained and a great place to sit back and people watch. This really is so much fun. There are old classic vintage rides, games, novelty mirrors, and food carts. It has everything an amusement park should have.
For lunch, we stopped at an amazing restaurant called Gemyse. This restaurant is inside Tivoli Gardens and not only is it a perfect greenhouse setting but the food is fabulous. I can’t decide which dish was best between the southern chicken, roasted avocado or the falafel… they were all so good!

Last stops of the day
As our one day in Copenhagen came to an end we walked through Princess Mary’s residence. Yes, we yelled out “Mary!” in the hope she would hear our Australian accents and invite us in for a cold beer. Sadly this was not the case but the Royal residence looked very grand. What we liked about it was that it felt accessible and was there for everyone to enjoy.

The final stop for our one day in Copenhagen was the bronze statue of a mermaid. This is famous from the fairy tale written by Hans Christian Andersen. If you want to get a photo of the statue without a million other people in it be sure to visit the statue early in the day. We found it very hard to get a good pic as the crowd was five deep in the afternoon on the way back to the boat.
