After following the journey from design through to construction we had been eagerly awaiting the opening of Basalt, Orange’s newest Luxury Studio Accommodation.
Designed by the talented Cameron Anderson Architects, who also created Gawthornes Hut in Mudgee, and knowing the property was owned by the Rollin family who operates the orchid where the studios are located we just knew Basalt had to be the next place to visit in country NSW.
- ARCHITECTURALLY DESIGNED STUDIOS
From the incredibly designed layout to the lush fixtures and furnishings, every inch of the studio has been designed to ensure guests experience a luxe country stay. - INCREDIBLE VIEWS
Whether it be sitting in your oversized concrete bathtub, on your verandah, or laying in bed each studio has been orientated to showcase the incredible countryside and skyline views. We often found ourselves sitting in awe of the orange sunrises and what looked like billions of stars in the sky at night. We were lucky enough to see several falling stars and what appeared to be a red fireball streaming through the sky. - INCLUSIONS
Upon check-in, we were delighted to find a whole array of complimentary inclusions that we did not expect. The complimentary mini-bar was an absolute surprise and the perfect accompaniment to the Scoop Whole Foods chocolates that were so very delicious, especially the freeze-dried raspberry white chocolate balls.
With three elegantly unique studios to choose from Basalt has been designed to ensure every guest experiences a little piece of luxury, sophistication and genuine country charm.
Chaser is the first studio you will see as you arrive, Drifter the second and Yonder the third which is positioned at the end of the driveway and the studio we choose to stay in for four nights.
All three studios look out over the Orchid and Orange township and are orientated to ensure privacy and the feeling of seclusion with each studio being roughly 70 – 80 meters apart.
Inside the studio feels like no expense has been spared with the luxe finishes including Carlotta + Gee French bed linen, rammed earth walls, polished concrete floors, the softest wool carpet, yoga mats under the bed and a branded front door mat, cutting board and firewood rack.
The studio is also equipped with reverse cycle air conditioning, an indoor woodfire place, an outdoor fire pit, and a kitchenette that includes every utensil you can think of along with a microwave, mini fridge, telescope for star-gazing, a Bluetooth speaker, a TV for streaming all of your favourite shows and one of our favourite things super fast internet care of Starlink by SpaceX.
We loved how the studio came with a complimentary mini bar, snacks, continental breakfast and coffee that showcased local produce, wineries and distilleries. We also loved how the owners have drawn from their travel adventures to elevate guest experiences at Basalt. Simon told us how he recalled travelling to Sydney for work and finding complimentary beer and snacks in his room on check-in, he said this was so unexpected and has never forgotten that feeling of “wow” and wanted to ensure Basalt guests experienced that feeling.
Besides the incredible view, like us, you may also get to see kangaroos and foxes not too far from your front door. We also heard a loud growling noise which we think may have been a koala in the nearby eucalypt trees.
It’s evident that the Rollin family are dedicated to providing superior service that embodies that quintessential country charm that we all love. Their enthusiasm mixed with the right balance of communication, incredibly designed studios and genuine hospitality make Basalt a country luxe getaway that you need to experience.
Sitting just over 1100 feet on the highest point of the cherry orchid and boasting spectacular country views Basalt is positioned only minutes from some of the region’s famous and may I say spectacular wineries and eateries and is only a 10-minute drive from the city centre.
Travel time from Sydney: 3 hours 45 minutes
Address: 1100 Pinnacle Road, Canobolas NSW 2800
