Ready to Experience Luxury Accommodation in Mudgee?
Located just under 15 minutes from the heart of Mudgee is the drop-dead gorgeous Gawthorne’s Hut, a stunning addition to Mudgee’s accommodation scene. Architecturally designed, this off-grid eco hut offers luxurious accommodation in Mudgee’s wine country.
We had been planning to visit Mudgee for some time but couldn’t find a completely private and secluded property that screamed luxurious country getaway… that is until we found Gawthorne’s Hut.
Everything about this hut has been perfectly designed ensuring all of the creature comforts expected from a luxurious property are maintained while still allowing you to experience a country cabin getaway. So yes there is wifi and a hairdryer!
We loved that Gawthorne’s Hut was only a short 10-minute drive from the center of town and not too far away from all of the wineries we wanted to visit.
The hut has so many outstanding features that it’s hard to name our favourites but we can’t go past the unbelievable rain shower and bathtub with views out over the countryside and the low-lying king bed which allows you to look up and see the stars at night and the mist coming off the water in the morning.
We also loved the comfy bean bags and the outdoor fire pit – there is nothing better than having a nice glass of Mudgee red around a fire on a cold night.
During our stay, we were lucky enough to see a whole family of wallabies and the Balloon Aloft hot air balloon rise over the mountains each morning – set your camera on slow-mo to catch the hot air balloon at sunrise!
Check-In
Ensuring complete privacy, Gawthorne’s Hut is a self-check-in property. Check-in is from 3 pm and your hosts will ensure you receive the property address and access information a few days before your stay. On arrival, all you need to do is open the gate, drive down the driveway, open the door and you’re in.
A nice touch was that the fire was already burning when we arrived so it was nice and toasty inside and an unexpected gift basket full of local Mudgee produce was on the counter – the farm fresh eggs from Madge and the girls (Wilgowrah’s resident hens) were delicious!
Hosts
Owned and operated by Airbnb Super Hosts Rick and Steph, Gawthorne’s Hut forms part of “Wilgowrah” a 480-acre working cattle farm. Rick and Steph are extremely easy to deal with and offer country hospitality all the way, right down to the handwritten welcome note and checking what kind of milk is preferred.
Located closer to the main homestead Tom’s Cottage also forms part of “Wilgowrah” and is another great accommodation option for 2 guests. Wilgowrah Church has also been restored making it the third accommodation option at Wilgowrah.

♡ We stayed in early November when the weather was just starting to warm up. Staying during the cooler months would also be ideal
♡ This property has a 2-night minimum stay (trust me this won’t be long enough)
