I have always wanted to stay in the Hunter Valley, however, on each occasion I would just pass through as I could never really find the right luxury accommodation… that is until now!
Spicers Guesthouse has recently completed a multimillion-dollar renovation which has transformed the property into a luxury Guesthouse and it looks absolutely amazing!
As you drive up the driveway the five-star Guesthouse has a real homely presence that instantly makes you feel welcome, calm and relaxed. Our first words were WOW, this is beautiful and exactly what we were hoping to find. On the way to the main house for check-in you are greeted by artistic weathered steel kangaroos that are a true reflection of the wildlife you will see around the hotel grounds.
Inside the main house the subtle yet sophisticated tones that have been chosen for the finishes and furnishings make you want to sit back in the bar or guest lounge and enjoy what the Hunter is famous for… wine! Just off the lounge you can relax on the verandah or at the fire pit which is a perfect setting in winter to enjoy a cheeky vino!
Guest Rooms
The Guesthouse has 45 rooms ranging from King Rooms to Suites and for that extra special occasion a 4-bedroom cottage. We stayed in a King Deluxe room which was comfortable and modern with a country luxe feel.
The Spicers signature bed was perfect, I especially loved the Bemboka blankets – so soft and cozy. Our room was on the ground floor which had shutter doors that led out onto the verandah where we enjoyed a bottle of Pepper Tree’s red while watching the kangaroos hopping around.
Restaurant
Éremo is a modern Italian restaurant that offers guests either à la carte dining or the Avido menu where the chefs create a selection of dishes for you. As we had a big lunch we ordered from the à la carte menu and had the Gnocchi with braised local squid & smoked tomato and the Risotto of seasonal vegetables, aged pecorino. Both were both delicious, that pecorino I can still smell it now – YUM! You also have breakfast in this same location which was really delicious, a fresh selection of fruits, pastries with hot breakfast choices, freshly squeezed juices and coffee!
Good to Know
Book a ground floor room so you have the option to sit out on your verandah and enjoy the surroundings, you may even see a kangaroo or two hopping about.
Accommodation prices are generally lower on weekdays. There are also fewer guests around so you will really be able to enjoy your stay in the Hunter Valley
Start your day by getting up early and head down towards the pool as you may see the hot air balloons passing by – great insta op!
Stop by some of the great Cellar Doors like Brokenwood or Pepper Tree so you can sample some of the Hunters finest
Be sure to check out the smelly cheese shop, the chocolate factory along with many great restaurants and cafes. We had lunch at the Hunters Quarter which I highly recommend
Pre-plan your transport before heading out to the cellar doors so you can enjoy the art of wine tasting with any issue. You will find there are many tour companies that will work with you to arrange a tour that suits
Location: Ekerts Rd, Pokolbin NSW 2320
Spicer’s Guesthouse is located just two short hours from Sydney and is in heart of the Hunter Valley – close enough yet far enough away from spectacular wineries, restaurants and cafes.
