Last year we visited the Snowy Mountains, we loved it so much that as soon as we got home we started planning for the next season.
We knew we wanted to stay close to Jindabyne and at a property that offered total privacy, came with incredible views, and was brand new – or close enough to it! After months of research, we found the most incredible and newly opened place to stay – Mill Cabin.
Located over 1300 meters above the Thredbo Valley, and only 15 minutes from Jindabyne Mill Cabin is an off-grid property offering total privacy along with some of the most amazing views of Mt Perisher and the Crackenback Valley.
Paying homage to Australia’s old stockman cottages Mill Cabin is broken up into four main areas, a bedroom, a bathroom, a hallway/laundry, and an open lounge/kitchen area. The exterior walls are covered with granite rock and the interiors have been specifically crafted to compliment the cabin and its surroundings.
The cabin is equipped with a full-functioning kitchen, laundry, board games, binoculars, Cultiver Linen, Hunter Lab bathroom products, an espresso machine, and a woodfire place which is the perfect place to sit and admire the incredible view.
We loved how our hosts made sure the woodfire was burning for when we arrived and how they left an unexpected gift basket on the counter with tea, coffee, crackers, marshmallows for the fire, and schnapps from the local Wildbrumby Distillery to try. Although there is no TV in the cabin the WIFI is incredibly reliable.
Looking directly over Mt Perisher Mill Cabin has been strategically placed to ensure you are not only mesmerized by the view but are encapsulated by the peace and tranquility of the Australian bush.
Mill Cabin is situated over 15 acres which you are free to explore. We saw wallabies and their babies playing in the snow right outside the cabin window. Although we didn’t get to see them other guests have seen deer, wombats, and even emus.
On our first night, it snowed so much that we were lucky enough to wake up to a total white-out, beautiful.
Outside you will find a fire pit, bbq, pre-cut wood for the fire, a clothesline, and a semi-enclosed garage which is extremely handy during the snow season.
Mill Cabin is a self-check-in property.
Your hosts will email you just before your stay with the address and codes needed to access the property. They will also send you a property fact sheet to help you throughout your stay.
Good to Know
♡ Stay outside of the ski season to secure the best rate. We stayed the first week in June just before the ski seasons started and experienced plenty of snow – it was a total white-out!
♡ This property accommodates 2 guests & has a 2-night minimum stay
♡ Self-check-in’s from 3 pm and checkout’s at 10 am
♡ Mill Cabin’s hosts are Niki & Trent, who are extremely helpful & accommodating
♡ If visiting during the snow season we recommend driving a 4WD to ensure easy access to the cabin, however, we did drive a 2WD and didn’t have any access issues as the majority of snow melted by mid-day
♡ During winter, you should always carry snow chains for both 4WD & 2WD vehicles. All 2WD cars must carry snow chains when entering Kosciuszko National Park between the June and October long weekends
♡ Mills Cabin is a 20-minute drive from Thredbo & a 15-minute drive from Jindabyne
♡ We would stay at this property again during June, & it would also be beautiful during Autumn & Spring

Jindabyne Brewing for great locally brewed beer, food & lake views. Make sure you pick up a take-home pack to enjoy during your stay. The Island Blend Pilzner & the Black Diamond are our favourites.
Shut the Gate is a small cellar door & produce store in Berridale which offers wine-tasting & gourmet groceries. We loved the Shiraz & Sangiovese.
Wildbrumby Schnapps Distillery for an award-winning schnapps tasting & relaxing long lunch, & it’s just down the road from Mill Cabin, get in early if you like Austrian Apple Strudel, it’s made fresh daily and sells out fast.
La Famiglia for a traditional woodfire pizza or Italian meal. We can’t go past the Regina Margherita pizza.
