Mention the name Mudgee and you instantly think of sitting out the sun sipping wine while grazing on delicious local produce and a whole heap of cheese, and this is exactly what we did on our three-day getaway to Mudgee!
Mudgee clearly knows a thing or two about producing fine wine as the region has been squashing grapes since the 1850s. Predominately renowned for its Cab Sav and Chardonnay varieties Mudgee also produces some dam fine Rieslings and Rosé.
With over 35 standout wineries to visit in Mudgee, the hardest thing is knowing which cellar doors are the best ones to visit. So after many, many glasses of wine and a whole lot of cheese tastings, we have listed our top five wineries and cellar doors to visit in Mudgee that are guaranteed to wow your tastebuds!
Lowe Family Wine Co.

Lowe is the kind of winery that you arrive thinking you are just going to stay for a wine tasting and then realise you actually want to stay all day.
Every little thing about this winery has you smiling from the minute you arrive. Its relaxed feel, stunning grounds and commitment to producing wines via organic & biodynamic methods mean the wines are deliciously crisp and clean, like my favourite – Rodger Wilbetree the summery sparkling red!
The terrace overlooks the vineyards and lake which makes it the perfect backdrop to complete your wine tasting, don’t forget to say hello to Louis the very large dog otherwise known as the resident concierge.

The Cellar by Gilbert

Family-owned and operated The Cellar by Gilbert is full of country hospitality and delivers not only quality wine but also really really delicious produce.
The tasting room looks more like a charismatic wine bar and from the minute you arrive you feel extremely welcomed. You can sample six different wines from either the Small Batch or Gilbert Range and your tasting can be completed inside or outside in the courtyard.
Whatever you do, do not leave without ordering the “Cellar Grazing Board”. The freshly made produce is so good, especially the freshly baked focaccia, lavosh, pesto feta, dukkah and my favourite beetroot relish – yum!

De Beaurepaire Wines

Family owned and French-inspired De Beaurepaire is possibly one of the most relaxing and prettiest wineries to visit while you’re in Mudgee. Located in Rylstone approximately 40 minutes from Mudgee De Beaurepaire is full of history and charm.
Once stables to a Melbourne cup winner the sandstone tasting room dates back to the 1850s and as you drive down the very long country-style driveway through the vineyards you instantly appreciate the character and peacefulness that is De Beaurepaire Wines.
We opted for the self-guided wine tasting of four wines so we could sit outside and enjoy the sunshine, but you can also enjoy the signature experience where you can taste up to eight wines with the winemakers.
Hint
♡ Sit outside & enjoy the view of the vineyard. Sascha, the cute dogo, will make you feel very welcome
♡ Allow approx 45 minutes for your tasting
♡ De Beaurepaire offers a small range of locally sourced produce which allows you to create your own cheeseboard
♡ This winery would be most enjoyed on a dry day
♡ Most people visit on their way to Mudgee (Friday) or on their way home (Sunday), we visited on Saturday which meant it was very peaceful
