Over the last few months, I have heard people saying they are either going to Japan, have just visited Japan, or have always wanted to visit Japan. Japan has become one of the most desired holiday destinations, for travelers, especially Australias. So for Aron’s birthday this year, we booked a last-minute holiday to Japan to find out why this destination has become so popular.
Being our first trip to Japan we booked our first four nights in Shibuya, we had three prerequisites for finding a place to stay, the property had to be brand new, centrally located, and offer views over the city, and this is how we found Hotel Indigo Tokyo Shibuya, the highlight property of our holiday!
THE ROOM
We checked into room 2323, a “King Premium High Floor w. Bath for up to 3 People” room. This room was generous in size, and as told by the concierge, one of the biggest rooms in the hotel, approximately 30 sqm. The configuration was exactly as we liked, a king bed with a couch and table looking onto the TV. The decor is fresh, vibrant, and modern and the room looks out over Tokyo City.
GALLERY 11
Offering delicious food, a great atmosphere, and helpful staff we ended up eating at Gallery 11 most nights. We couldn’t go past the Falafel, baby spinach and kale salad, Sweet potato croquet, Shishito broccoli gyoza, Pumpkin gnocchi, and my favorite Rigatoni bolognese.
LOCATION
Having never visited Japan before, we weren’t overly sure of the neighborhoods or where we should stay to get our first taste of Tokyo but Hotel Indigo was the right choice, it is so close to major attractions, so much so that we ended up walking through Shibuya Crossing and past the Hachikō Memorial Statue multiple times a day.
Hotel Indigo an IHG hotel is one of Shibuya’s newest additions, opening in August 2023, the hotel is immaculate, and the decor and furnishings feel fresh and vibrant. With check-in being on the 12th floor and the hotel dedicated to blending into its neighboring surrounds we felt that we had chosen the perfect place to experience Japan.
Due to an early flight, we arrived well before check-in and were reminded by the staff that we were very early and the room wouldn’t be ready till 3 pm, however, knowing this would be the case we stored our bags with the concierge before starting to explore the city.
Hotel Indigo has everything you need, a restaurant, bar, coffee lounge, room service, and a huge outdoor terrace. Hotel Indigo occupies floors 11-28 of Dogenzaka-dori, allowing you access to additional eateries and shops at your doorstep. We highly recommend The City Bakery for coffee, light bites, and sweet treats. With so many early starts we used to get iced coffees from The City Bakery just before they closed and put them in the fridge so we didn’t miss out on our morning caffeine fix, what made it even better was they stocked Single O, one of our favourite Australian coffee brands.
We booked Hotel Indigo Shibuya knowing it was in a good location but it wasn’t until we arrived that we realised just how good. The hotel is only steps away from major attractions, a four-minute walk to the iconic Shibuya Crossing, eight minutes to Shibuya Sky, and five minutes to Shibuya station and the Hachikō Memorial. There are also great restaurants and shops close by like Don Quijote which is right across the road, Chibachan serving up boats of chicken and huge beers, and A Happy Pancake which is a must when holidaying in Japan.
Hotel Indigo Shibuya was one of our favourite places to stay while visiting Japan. Being centrally located to major attractions along with its oversized guest room, delicious in-house restaurant, and amongst the hustle and bustle of Shibuya we would certainly check back in on our next Japan getaway.
