If you are planning to stay in Southampton, England and have been searching for a luxury hotel that is not only perfect inside and out but also offers stunning harbour views, well you can stop looking! I found the five-star luxury Southampton Harbour Hotel & Spa and checked in for four nights!
Just in case you don’t know Southampton is a coastal town located just over one-hour south west of London and is the port gateway for most cruise ships travelling in and around Europe. The Port of Southampton is where my husband and I boarded the Celebrity Silhouette to cruise around Russia, Scandinavia, Iceland, Ireland and Northern Ireland.
There are many places to stay in Southampton but I was looking for somewhere that was just that little bit extra special and offered little luxuries like complimentary gin and sherry in your room. So you can imagine my delight when I found this unique yacht-shaped hotel overlooking the harbour at Ocean Village.
Guest Rooms
The Southampton Harbour Hotel & Spa has 119 contemporary guest rooms ranging from studios to deluxe rooms and suites.
Each guest room has its cosy feel with yellow, orange, green or blue cushions and sweet little touches like the SHH bolster pillows which add that quirkiness and extra special feel. I can’t forget to mention the Egyptian cotton sheets, fluffy robes, slippers (we love slippers), The White Company toiletries, complimentary gin and sherry and the Nespresso machine – it’s all there for you to enjoy.
We checked into a Deluxe Marina View room which had plenty of space, storage, a very comfy bed and a pair of binoculars to look out at the marina and Solent. What I liked best about this room was you were able to see all of the cruise ships come and go from the port – we watched our cruise ship arrive in port at 6 am, it was just perfect!
Restaurants
The Jetty
The Jetty’s ground floor location is the perfect setting to chill out. The outside deck has super comfy pod lounges that you can sink into while overlooking the marina. The inside is beautifully styled and we enjoyed dining here having what The Jetty is best known for – fresh local seafood.
The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner and has menu options to suit everyone. So don’t worry if you’re more of a meat lover you won’t go hungry!
HarBAR on 6th
HarBAR on 6th is the Southampton Harbour Hotel’s rooftop restaurant, club and bar. This place has a relaxed vibe and is great for breakfast, lunch, dinner or a cheeky cocktail or two! You can sit back and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere while you wait for your wood-fired pizza to be cooked.
We loved HarBAR on 6th, this was the perfect spot to sit back and enjoy the afternoon sun while enjoying the spectacular view. They have DJs and live music here on weekends which can get a little noisy for hotel guests, however, we were never bothered by this.
HarSPA Café
The HarSPA café is located in the spa area of the hotel and offers juices, shakes and healthy things like fruit cups and muffins. We enjoyed having the shakes and muffins for breakfast when we were heading out and about early.
Room Service
Sometimes you just want to sit in bed and enjoy the view…just pick up the phone and wallah your food will arrive shortly!
We enjoyed all four eats but we enjoyed sitting on the rooftop at HarBAR on 6th having a wood-fired pizza and a cocktail while enjoying the view – Mwah!
Hotel Concierge
As we stayed before and after our cruise, we took advantage of Southampton Harbour Hotel & Spa’s complimentary transfers to and from the Port of Southampton. The transfers can easily be arranged with the concierge and the hotel will drop you right where you need to check-in for your cruise.
The concierge will also be able to help you arrange transfers to and from the airport. Just email the hotel directly and they will let you know what options are available and what costs are involved.
While in Southampton Make Sure You Check Out
Bills Restaurant & Bar
Bill’s is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and offers all of the classic to make you feel all homely. We loved this place, the food was great but even more impressive was the look and feel of the restaurant.
Location: Westquay shopping complex, Southampton
Travel time from the Southampton Harbour Hotel: approx. 20-minute walk
Dancing Man Brewery
What a perfect combination a brewery and a restaurant that serves delicious peanut butter pretzels. The Dancing Man Brewery is open for lunch and dinner and let me tell you it’s a little beauty! The beer, food and atmosphere are perfect. The building used to be an old woolshed built all the way back in the 14th century, so you can imagine it has history galore.
Location: Town Quay, Southampton
Travel time from the Southampton Harbour Hotel: approx. 15-minute walk
Good to Know
If you wake up early from jetlag, get up and go for a morning walk around Southampton. It’s beautiful and a great time to take pictures
Request a room that sits towards the back of the hotel but still overlooks the marina. This will ensure you’re not under the rooftop bar which has live bands and can get a little noisy
